......and sunrise. This is the ger that we randomly stopped at and convinced our driver to ask the family to let us stay.
And this is the family that hosted us. What a delightful bunch!
Erin playing with the baby girl.
Erin wearing the father's traditional over-coat posing with our driver, Ikhme. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ikhme was crazy, but a jolly fellow.
What you've all been waiting for.....GOAT HEAD!!!!!!! That's right, a random, decapitated, fresh goat head on a shelf, waiting to be consumed. Thankfully, we did not do the consuming that night. Instead, we had a kind of stew that made us all sick afterward. We suspect it had something to do with the fact that the meat had been sitting out for so long before being thrown into the stew.
Going back in time.....this was at the previous stop, where we went horse riding. These are our hosts and horse guides, plus our driver on the far right.
A two-humped, Bactrian camel! We were so excited to see wild camels. We passed this herd on the first day of the trek and I said that it was too dark to stop and take pictures. I felt guilty about saying that the whole trek. I immediately regretted this decision, thinking that we may not run into more camels. On the way back to Ulaanbator, I kept a sharp eye out for any rogue camels and sure enough, we came across the same herd. I redeemed myself by telling the driver to stop so we could take pictures such as this.
Yak attak! This yak was fiercely guarding his little island in this little river. He seemed less than impressed with us. Whatever floats your island, my yakkish friend.
And that concludes the Mongolian pictures. We're almost done! Next up, Russia. But that'll probably take many more weeks to get through.......
